Some photoshoots go exactly as planned, with golden sunlight streaming through the trees and a perfectly timed golden-hour glow. Others, however, take a different route—one filled with unexpected reschedules, unpredictable weather, and a determination to embrace whatever nature throws our way.
This particular family shoot was one of those journeys. After several postponements due to illness and weather, we finally decided to go ahead, no matter what. And, of course, the British weather didn’t disappoint—it rained. A lot. But instead of letting it dampen our spirits, we leaned into it, capturing something truly special.
Cozy Moments at Home.
We started indoors, keeping things warm and personal in the family’s home. With two beautiful little girls and their lovable dog, Dasha, the atmosphere was relaxed and intimate. There’s something so special about home shoots—the children are in their element, surrounded by their favorite toys, and the interactions are so natural. Snuggles on the sofa, giggles in the kitchen, and Dasha happily joining in made for some truly heartwarming images.
Embracing the Elements.
But we weren’t stopping there. Armed with raincoats, wellies, and a sense of adventure, we stepped outside. The girls splashed through muddy puddles, laughter ringing through the air as raindrops fell around them. It wasn’t the pristine, dry setting that many people envision for a photoshoot, but it was real—full of movement, fun, and authentic joy.
So many people hesitate to book a winter shoot because of the unpredictable weather, but in reality, these are some of the most natural and true-to-life captures. After all, this is England—we’re no strangers to rain! Instead of waiting for the “perfect” conditions, embracing the elements often results in the most beautifully raw and heartfelt images.
The Beauty of an Unscripted Shoot.
What made this shoot so special wasn’t just the setting, but the willingness of this wonderful family to let go of perfection and just enjoy the moment. That’s what family photography is really about—not stiff, posed smiles, but genuine laughter, playful chaos, and capturing life exactly as it is.
So, if you’re holding off booking a winter shoot because of the weather—don’t! Whether it’s snuggles at home, a woodland adventure, or a rainy-day puddle-jumping session, there is beauty in every season. And sometimes, the most unexpected shoots turn out to be the most memorable of all.

This weekend in Essendon, Hertfordshire I had the absolute pleasure of being commissioned to photograph a truly special pair: Victoria and her beloved Black Labrador, Thierry. At eight years old, Thierry is a mature and gentle soul, and it was magical to witness the bond he shares with Victoria. This wasn’t just a photoshoot—it was a celebration of their connection, the kind that speaks volumes without a single word.
Thierry was the perfect gentleman. His calm demeanor and watchful eyes followed Victoria wherever she went. It was clear that Thierry wasn’t just a pet; he was a cherished family member and best friend. Victoria’s affection for him was equally palpable—every gentle pat, every laugh as he nudged her with his nose, told a story of years filled with love and trust.
As a photographer, I’ve had the pleasure of working with babies, families, and people of all ages to capture life’s precious moments. But what many may not realise is that my work goes beyond just human subjects. I have a deep passion for animal photography, especially dogs, and I’ve been fortunate to incorporate this love into my professional work. These incredible creatures bring so much joy and companionship into our lives, and capturing them on camera allows families to hold onto memories of their pets, who, as we know, are never with us long enough.
Why Photographing Dogs is So Important to Me
For me, photographing dogs goes beyond the art of photography. Dogs, with their boundless energy and unique personalities, are family. I love capturing that special bond between pets and their people, whether it’s a pup’s playful tilt of the head, the gleam in their eye, or the softness of an older dog’s gaze. These images become lifelong treasures, a way to remember and honor our furry friends and the joy they bring into our lives.
Holiday Magic: Christmas-Themed Dog Portraits
With the Christmas season approaching, I’ve been incorporating festive themes into recent dog photo sessions, creating beautiful, seasonal keepsakes. Imagine you Crimbo card featuring your dog in a cozy Christmas setting or framed prints that make perfect gifts for pet-loving friends and family. Whether it’s a whimsical Santa hat, a wintery backdrop, or just a hint of holiday cheer, these portraits bring a little extra magic to the season and make for meaningful Christmas cards and gifts.
Still Booking for the Holiday Season!
If you’ve been thinking about capturing some beautiful memories of your dog or giving a unique, heartwarming gift to a fellow dog lover, now is the perfect time. I still have a few slots open for Christmas-themed sessions! Let’s create something beautiful together, capturing memories that you and your loved ones can cherish forever.
I’m based in Hertfordshire and cover surrounding areas including Essex, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, and London. Get in touch if you’d like to book a session for your furry family members—let’s make this holiday season unforgettable!

**Welcoming Baby Connie: A Joyful Visit with New Parents**
Last week, I had the absolute pleasure of visiting a family who had just welcomed their beautiful new addition to the world, a 4-week-old baby girl named Connie. There’s something incredibly special about being in the presence of a newborn, and Connie was no exception. She was an absolute delight, radiating a calm and relaxed energy that made our time together even more memorable.
During my visit, I was treated to some of Connie’s first smiles, a precious milestone that left everyone in the room beaming. It's these small, yet profound moments that remind us of the pure joy and innocence that a new life brings into the world.
Her parents were equally calm and composed, a testament to how well they have embraced their new roles. It’s no easy task adjusting to life with a newborn, but they seemed to be managing it with grace and love. They were supported by Connie’s grandmother, who was there to lend a helping hand during those early, often challenging days of parenthood. It was heartwarming to see the bond between the generations, especially when the grandmother had the chance to pose for some photographs with her new granddaughter. These photos are sure to become cherished family memories in the years to come.
I wish the family lots of luck as they continue on this incredible journey of parenthood. I’m already looking forward to capturing more of Connie’s milestones as she grows, and witnessing the love and happiness she brings to those around her. Here’s to the many beautiful memories that lie ahead!
We began our adventure on a sun-dappled path, with the tall trees providing a natural canopy overhead. The children, full of energy and excitement, led the way, their laughter echoing through the serene woodland. It was clear from the start that this session was going to be a delightful blend of candid moments and beautifully staged shots, each reflecting the genuine joy and affection between the siblings.
Our walk took us around a picturesque duck lake, where the children marveled at the ducks gliding gracefully across the water. This tranquil setting provided the perfect backdrop for capturing some spontaneous interactions—curious glances, shared giggles, and moments of sibling camaraderie.
Next, we found a spot where the trees had naturally fallen, creating an impromptu playground. The children eagerly climbed the sturdy branches, their adventurous spirits shining through. With each step and jump, they displayed a blend of confidence and playfulness that was a joy to photograph. These moments of climbing and jumping off the fallen trees encapsulated their fearless and fun-loving nature.
In between the spontaneous play, we also took some more staged photos. The siblings, brimming with confidence, posed effortlessly, their expressions radiating joy and a deep connection. Whether they were standing side by side with arms around each other or sharing a secret joke, their bond was palpable. The simplicity of these posed shots, set against the natural beauty of our surroundings, highlighted the genuine affection and companionship they share.
As we wrapped up our session, I couldn't help but feel grateful for the opportunity to document such heartfelt moments. These children, with their infectious energy and deep connection, made the shoot a memorable and joyous experience.
Here's to more walks, tree-climbing escapades, and the timeless bond of siblings!
One of the most fulfilling aspects of being a photographer is forming lasting connections with families and witnessing their growth over the years. This journey began a couple of years ago when Lauren first booked me for an outdoor shoot in a picturesque local woodland. Her two children were absolutely delightful—confident, polite, and bubbling with energy. We spent a magical afternoon amidst the trees, capturing their playful spirits and the strong bond they shared.
Fast forward a couple of years, and I received an exciting call from Lauren. She shared the wonderful news that she was expecting another child and wanted me to capture this special time a few weeks after her new daughter was born. I was thrilled and honored to be invited back to document another milestone in their lives.
When I arrived at their home for the shoot, I was greeted by the same warmth and joy that had characterised our first session. Lauren's older children were now proud big siblings, and their adoration for their baby sister was evident in every smile and gentle touch. The two older kids were as charming as ever, their bubbly personalities now accompanied by a nurturing side that was heartwarming to see.
Their outfits were thoughtfully chosen—neutral, crisp, and clean, adding a timeless elegance to the photos. The simplicity of their attire allowed the focus to remain on their interactions and the love that bound them together as a family. The session was filled with tender moments: the older siblings gently holding their baby sister, sharing secret giggles, and proudly showing her off.
There was a serene beauty in the way the family seemed complete, each member fitting perfectly into this new dynamic. The baby, with her tiny features and peaceful demeanor, was already adored by her siblings and parents alike. We captured a mix of candid shots and posed portraits, each frame telling a story of love, joy, and the beginning of new adventures.
Capturing the milestones and moments of this beautiful family has been a privilege, and I am excited to see where their journey takes them next.
To Lauren and her wonderful family, thank you for trusting me to capture these precious memories. It's been a joy to document your family's growth and the love you share. I can't wait for our next session, and the many more milestones we'll celebrate together.
**Welcoming Baby Joseph: A Heartfelt Newborn Photoshoot in Hertfordshire**
There are few moments in life as precious and fleeting as the early days with a newborn. Recently, I had the honor of capturing one such intimate and relaxed first family photoshoot with baby Joseph and his adoring parents in the beautiful county of Hertfordshire.
Throughout the session, I was reminded of how powerful and beautiful these early days are. They pass by in a blur of sleepless nights and endless diaper changes, but within them are countless moments of profound connection and love. It was a privilege to capture the newness of baby Joseph’s life, the miracle of his arrival, and the beginning of this family’s journey together.
As I left their home, I felt a deep sense of gratitude for being able to witness and preserve these first precious memories. Baby Joseph’s photoshoot wasn’t just about taking pictures; it was about telling the story of a new family’s love, their hopes, and their dreams for the future. I look forward to seeing this little one grow and to capturing more moments of this beautiful family’s journey.
Welcome to the world, baby Joseph. You are so loved.
Returning to capture cherished moments for a family is one of the most rewarding aspects of my work as a photographer. Recently, I had the privilege of documenting the arrival of a new baby boy into a loving family in St. Albans, Hertfordshire. This wasn't my first time working with them; I had previously photographed their first child, and it was heartwarming to be invited back to capture this next chapter in their lives.
We started our shoot outside in their beautiful garden. The sun cast a golden glow over everything, enhancing the natural beauty of the setting and the bond between the siblings. The garden was alive with laughter as the little girl giggled and played, her baby brother cradled gently in her arms or nestled in the comfort of his parents. These moments were filled with spontaneity and joy, allowing me to capture the genuine interactions and emotions that make family photography so special.
As we moved inside, the atmosphere shifted to one of calm and coziness. The family's home, filled with personal touches and a sense of warmth, provided the perfect backdrop for more intimate, relaxed shots.
Throughout the shoot, I was reminded of the incredible journey it is to watch families grow and evolve. Capturing these milestones—the arrival of a new baby, the blossoming of sibling bonds, the everyday moments that become treasured memories—is a profound honor. It's in these sessions that I see the true essence of family: the joy, the love, the shared experiences that weave together to create a beautiful tapestry of life.
To this wonderful family in St. Albans, thank you for inviting me back into your lives to document these precious times. It is a privilege to witness your journey and to help you preserve these fleeting moments. Here's to many more sessions filled with laughter, love, and the beautiful chaos of family life.
### Capturing Love: An Intimate London Wedding
I recently had the privilege of capturing the wedding day of two truly remarkable individuals, a day that was as beautiful as it was emotional. The day began at the stunning Claridge's Hotel, where the bride was getting ready with her parents. The elegance of Claridge's provided a perfect backdrop for these intimate moments, filled with anticipation and joy.
The bride looked breathtaking in an Audrey Hepburn style wedding dress, complemented by exquisite Aqua Zura shoes. Her parents, beaming with pride and emotion, shared touching moments with their daughter as she prepared to embark on this new chapter of her life.
The ceremony took place at the iconic Marylebone Registry Office. Known for its stunning architecture and intimate setting, it was the perfect venue for this special occasion. The service was a very intimate affair, attended only by close family members. The atmosphere was filled with love and emotion as the couple exchanged vows in the beautifully adorned hall.
After the ceremony, we took a leisurely walk around Mayfair and its gardens. This stroll held significant meaning for the couple, and the serene environment provided a perfect backdrop for capturing their joy and love. The bride and groom looked incredibly polished and stunning, their happiness evident in every glance and smile they shared.
The day continued at Annabel's, the prestigious private members' club, where the couple greeted more guests. This intimate lunch was attended by immediate family and close friends, creating a warm and exclusive atmosphere. The floral arrangements by Rob Van Alden were nothing short of spectacular, adding a touch of natural beauty and elegance to the venue. His stunning bouquet and flower arrangements were a perfect match for the sophisticated charm of Annabel's.
Throughout the day, the laughter, intimacy, and romance between the couple were truly inspiring. It was a joy to witness and capture these moments as they unfolded. Every detail, from the stunning bouquet to the exquisite shoes, contributed to a day that was both elegant and deeply personal.
As I reflect on this special day, I am reminded of the power of love and the beauty of intimate celebrations. Wishing the newlyweds the very best as they begin their journey together.
May their future be filled with happiness, love, and countless cherished moments. x

In the heart of Chelsea, London, I recently had the pleasure of conducting a photoshoot that was anything but ordinary. The star of the session was Izzy, a vibrant and aspiring 12-year-old model looking to add a touch of sophistication to her portfolio.
Choosing Chelsea as our backdrop was a stroke of genius, as the neighborhood provided a perfect blend of urban charm and timeless elegance. From cobblestone streets to picturesque storefronts, every corner seemed to offer a captivating frame for Izzy's portfolio aspirations.
The guiding principle of the shoot was to embrace a relaxed, natural atmosphere, steering clear of the overly posed clichés often associated with modeling sessions. Izzy's youthful exuberance and natural grace served as the focal point, allowing her personality to shine through each frame.
As we wandered through the streets of Chelsea, the camera effortlessly captured Izzy in candid moments, showcasing her authenticity and genuine beauty. From impromptu laughs to thoughtful gazes, the results were a testament to the power of simplicity in photography
Upon reviewing the final images, it became evident that the decision to prioritise a natural, unforced aesthetic paid off. Izzy's portfolio now boasts a collection of images that radiate authenticity and charm, standing out in an industry often dominated by staged perfection.
In the end, our Chelsea photoshoot with Izzy was more than just a modeling session – it was a journey of self-discovery for a young talent eager to make her mark. The results speak for themselves, illustrating that beauty lies not only in meticulously planned poses but also in the genuine moments that unfold when authenticity takes center stage.

Hayley was diagnosed with Strep-B during her pregnancy so was monitored closely and given the required attention when she went into labour at the end of December 2016. Hayley's long labour, and the fact Hayley had Strep-B resulted in Josh being born with an infection. As soon as Josh was born the words "infection", "breathing difficulties", "Meningitis", and "Sepsis" were being used, and discussed which I can only imagine must have been petrifying for Hayley and her husband Tom. Hayley had already had a baby, a "normal", no complications, birth and was certainly not expecting to be hearing these nightmare words. Josh was making a grunting type noice on his arrival and the medial staff at Barnet General were concerned. The next awful words Hayley and Tom had to process were the words "lumbar punch". To find out what was wrong with Josh they needed to take fluid from his spine to find out more. The first lumbar punch was not successful and I will never forget the heartache in Hayley's voice and eyes when she explained about her baby boy being taken away for them and the sound of his screams (I know Hayley will be cracking up reading this, so I'm sending a virtual hug her way, but we did discuss this blog post being done but with two little monkeys keeping her very busy she hasn't got round to writing it with me so I thought it was the right time to share in conjunction with the celebration of the little man's first birthday and these beautiful photos of him xxx. LOVE YOU H)
After the second lumbar punch (as the first wasn't successful) they dscovered that Josh did not have Meningitis, but he did have Sepsis, a poisoning of the blood which would have been brought on by the Strep-B. With a few days in hospital and the right meds Hayley and Tom were then able to take home their precious little boy. The frightening thing is that cases like these are becoming more and more apparent and Strep-B isn't a routine test from what I believe which is ridiculous and I know at least three of my close friends have had it during pregnancy.
This little boy turned one last week and I offered to take some celebratory photographs of the little beaut. His big sister was on standby to help out with the cake clear up and made an appearance in a couple of shots.
WE LOVE YOU JOSHY! XXXX
Anna and her beautiful family invited me back again to capture them pre crimbo for some updated photographs and some beautiful gifts for some of their relatives. As always lots of fun was had by all!

Thank you again Alex for inviting me back and for all your recommendations over the last couple of years. xxxx
A friend of a friend contacted me asking to commission me to come and photograph her 15 year old daughter Millie, and her new horses at their yard in Hertfordshire. To create some memories of her and her passion for riding, and the start of her adventure into dressage with these beautiful horses.
I myself grew up riding and got my first pony when I was 11 with my best friend and it was our life. We spent our afternoons after school mucking out, grooming and riding, and the weekends and holidays we lived and breathed our pony and the yard was our second home. I then moved to South Africa and had to leave my best friend and my beloved pony which was heart wrenching but soon found a yard in South Africa where I helped with all the horses and broke in a couple of crazy Arab crosses, which now puts the fear of god in me, but i loved it and wouldn't have wanted to be doing anything else. When I moved back to England at the age of 16 it took a while to settle back in and my love for horses and riding was pushed to the side whilst i started my new school, took my GCSE's, built new friendships and rebuilt old ones . I then at 17 started college in London to do my A'Levels, and met my husband, and was a little more settled again. I bought a beautiful Chestnut Arab x Welsh pony called William who at the time was unbroken and I was looking forward to the challenge again. It was a chaotic journey with lots of near misses but i loved and adore him and the adventures we shared. That period soon came to an end when i finished college, decided University wasn't the route I was going to go down and I got out into the big world of working to gain work experience and start making money and paying for my pony. It was tough, and I struggled with the work, a scatty half broken pony and juggling my work and love life! So I made the painful decision to sell my beautiful pony and put riding on a back burner until the future, and apart from briefly loaning a pony for my children when they were 2.5 and 4.5 (what was i thinking) and the odd hack, I haven't lived and breathed horses like I once did for some years, but i miss it terribly. It is definitely something that's in your heart and blood. Motherhood, several house re-furbs/house moves and building a business whilst being a full time mummy has taken priority but I'm hoping that in the near future I get to re live my love for horses and share the experiences I had as a child/teenagers with my own children now life is a little more settled again.
Anyway back to Millie! Millie who is only 15 has been riding competitively with her horses for around 5 years now and 2 of those years have been full on dress. He pony Rolo started her off until she was ready for horses last year. She got her three horses, Isabelle and Jazz (pictured) in March of 2016 and kept them in Southern Spain for training with regular visits from Millie and her family, until April this year when they came over to England! Millie says that having them at home with her has widened their bonds even further, which I'm sure you can all see we have captured in these beautiful photos. He confidence and strength handling these two enormous and powerful animals is amazing! Isabelle, Millie's main horse iIsabelle s currently getting ready for competition at Junior level, and Jazz her 6 year old Stallion is working very hard with Millie in training to in the near future compete also.
Millie it was a pleasure to photograph you and your horses and wish you every bit of luck in your future with them.

QUESTION AND ANSWERS WITH JESS THE BRIDE X
How did you meet your man and how did he propose?
Greg & I went to school together! We were in the same form group from the age of 11 but weren’t really friends until we were 16 and then after we left school we had a drunken kiss and everything seemed to go from there, nearly 11 years later and we’re still unsure of how we ever ended up together!
Greg proposed in Cornwall on Christmas Day 2012 – we were walking off our lunch on Crantock beach when Greg proposed, I was in such shock that I thought it was a joke at first until he asked if my answer was yes and if I wanted to put the ring on!
Did you see many venues, and how did you get to your final decision?
My parents live next door to a beautiful church and I’d always dreamt of walking down their driveway in my wedding dress and getting married there – I called the priest a few days after our engagement to hold the date we wanted (the Saturday of the second May bank holiday).
We didn’t see any venues for the Reception! I am from a family that likes to host a party and very few of our BBQs & parties have finished much before sunrise so the thought of a venue imposing a finish time of midnight wasn’t going to do it for us! We also wanted to host a BBQ the day after the wedding as we had people traveling from all over the world to be with us and wanted to spend as much time celebrating with them as possible!
A family friend offered us some of his fields to host our Reception – plenty of space for the 4 Giant Kata tipis, a smaller ‘chill out tipi’ and a traditional marquee to host the children’s area. It was perfect!
Was your dress the dress you always dreamt of and did Greg predict the style you went for?
I always knew I wanted to have a lace dress with a ‘princess’ skirt – the one I chose was the first dress I saw and tried on and I fell in love with it instantly!
Greg said he had a feeling I would have that style but in real life I was far prettier than he could have ever imagined **cheese**
Did you go on honeymoon and if so where did you go?
A few days after the wedding we went to The Scarlet spa in Cornwall for 3 nights to completely switch off and relax. Then in the December after we went ‘flashpacking’ for a month! We went to Dubai, Hong Kong, Cambodia, Vietnam & Bali and seriously did not want to come home!
If you could have your wedding all over again would you change anything and if so what and why?
If we could have controlled the weather it would have been nice to be a little bit warmer but other than that everything was perfect!

WE HAD A BLAST. I gave them my usual "stick to the paths, don't stand on any bluebells and defiantly don't pick or run through them, as they are super special and it will ruin them for everyone else if we do trash them" talk and they took it all onboard and stuck to the rules beautifully. It's very sad how so many people think it's ok to go charging through these beautiful flowers, roll around them and even RIDE THEIR BIKES THROUGH them which then kills them, flattens them and spoils them for everyone else.
The boys and I had such great fun, whilst Mummy sat back and enjoyed watching them smiling, fooling around, climbing trees and being super stars on their shoot. They were an absolute please to photograph and were beautifully behaved.
Vera I hope you and your husband, and the boys of course enjoy the photos and i look forward to seeing you all on Sunday for Luke's Holy Communion!
PS NO BLUEBELLS WERE HARMED DURING THIS SHOOT.

I first photographed Victoria and her twin baby boys around 5 years ago, and then over the years have had the pleasure to photograph them as they have grown, with their family, including cousins and aunts and uncles, and a new baby brother! Victoria contacted me around a year ago asking if she could buy her mother in law Betty a shoot with her grandchildren and as an extended family in a near by park in St Albans. Due to the unpredictable weather in this country and various illness between everyone it took us over a year to get the shoot firmly in the diary and done!
It was worth the wait. Unfortunatley Victoria's hubby wasn't around so she decided to leave her sister in law, husband and the 5 grandchildren and the grandparents to it to take part in our shoot.
Betty I hope you love your sneak peeks and i very much look forward to capturing you all again in the future and your beautiful family grows.
ps A BIG THANK YOU FOR MY BEAUTIFUL FLOWERS, THEY LAST WEEKS, AND FILLED OUR HOME WITH THE MOST INCREDIBLE SMELL FOR WEEKS TOO.

So over the last few months I have yet again had the pleasure several times to work along side the fabulous ladies at Les Enfant who are top of their game in party planning, specialising in Little People. Although New Years Eve last year they were asked to style and put together an intimate family new years eve dinner party for their clients and their close family at their family home in Ascot. The balloon displays were of course put together and supplied by the fabulous Bubblegum Balloons and the stunning flower arrangements by Rob Van Helden. The food was prepped and cooked by the families in house chef and looked and smelt incredible. They also had the brilliant and very funny Magician, Christian Lee to entertain the family for the evening.

I'm a huge believer in you are what you eat. Don't get me wrong mine and my children's diet is far from perfect and on a Friday if everyone has GENERALLY been well behaved the kids get to go to the local sweet shop to choose a few sweets but generally we eat well. We only have refined sugar in the house when we have builders in and i have to make endless sugary hot drinks!! We don't ever buy fizzy drinks, and the only thing we do give to our children to drink is Water, Coconut water, fresh fruit juice very rarely and for my husband and I - wine ;-). I do find that myself and my son at times are intolerant to gluten and I tend to avoid white flour at all times, certainly when it comes to bread I only buy wholemeal. I am also a big advocate of Organic produce and I think it's a no brainer that if you buy something that can sit in the fridge quiet happily for days on end and still look and smell as formed and bland as when you bought it, then there is a reason, it's been "messed" with and god knows what the long term effects of these chemicals are. I am also a wannabe vegetarian and am working up to it, but rarely eat red meat and apart from when I eat out and can't be sure where it has come from, will only ever buy free range/organic meat/fish.
Two of my oldest friends Leonie and Abi and their good friend Benji are big on clean eating and are the co-founders of Kale and Hearty http://kaleandheartykitchen.com , please check them out on facebook and insta. and take a look at their website which is full of fab ideas and recipes which are great for you, as well as tasty and not complicated! Between them the girls have 6 children and some with intolerances so they post lots of wheat free, gluten free, sugar free and daily free ideas. Benji who's main focus is his personal training and his amazing protein cookies which IMHO are a must in every gym bag, nappy bag, handbag, briefcase, man bag! Check them out and place an order they are delicious and so good for you. ( http://www.thehealthkitchen.co )
Last year Kale & Hearty myself, my camera and our 8 children spent the afternoon playing around with some of their favourite brands and ideas for healthy, sugar free snacks and we had a lot of fun doing it! It's so important to bring our children up to have good, fun happy associations about food and get them cooking and growing their own food for healthy, happy lives as adults. So many people where brought up on rubbish, unhealthy food and now produce the same for their little ones, and it's all about educating yourself and you family and teaching them what is good and what is bad to put in your body and to enjoy the good stuff! Please do follow this fabulous trio http://kaleandheartykitchen.com/instagram and pop over to THK to order some Protein Cookies from http://www.thehealthkitchen.co, and watch this space for their up and coming e-book.
QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS WITH KALE AND HEARTY!
So who and what is Kale and Hearty?
"We are Personal Trainer and founder of the The Health Kitchen Benji and sisters Abi and Leonie and have been friends for 20 years. We all have a passion for eating real food."
Why did Kale and Hearty come about?
"We have 6 children between us with various allergies to gluten, dairy and peanuts and so cooking healthy meals from scratch became very important. Benji has 17 years as a PT and so nutrition is part of his life. We collaborated to share our ideas and show that eating well is not difficult, doesn’t have to be time consuming and tastes great! "
Which items are on your shopping every week?
"Almond milk, yoghurt, eggs, bananas, oats, kale, broccoli, chicken. "
What do you struggle to get your children to eat and how do you try to get around this?
"Abi’s eldest is autistic and so has certain foods he won’t eat because he doesn't like the smell, broccoli and bananas being 2 of them. He does love spinach and other fruits so as long as he is getting the nutrients he needs somehow a big deal is never made about it. My eldest was intollorant to cows milk protein as a young child and although he can now eat dairy he no longer likes it. He doesn’t eat yoghurts, cheese or milk. He does however LOVE our baked oats recipe which includes yoghurt (cooked in to it) but as long as he can’t taste it he’s fine. Also encouraging them to help grow our food (we have a herb and veg patch) as well as helping to prepare and cook our food really encourages them to try different foods. "
Which are your top 5 brands?
Rude Health – for non dairy milks ( http://rudehealth.com )
Jungle Butter – for organic, raw, refined sugar free almond butters ( https://www.facebook.com/Jungle-Butter-799082720154160/ )

Hilltop Honey – for a wide range of raw honeys ( http://www.hilltop-honey.com )
The Coconut Collaborative – for dairy free coconut yoghurt (http://www.coconutco.co.uk)
Can you tell us about your children’s favourite 3 savoury meals that don’t take too much time for a busy parent?
"Roast Tomato soup Boiled eggs with sweet potato soldiers Sticky chicken legs, veg and parsnip chips.
Can you tell us about 3 easy, healthy puddings that your children love that again would work for a busy parent? Banana pancakes (also work brilliantly for breakfast) Smoothie ice lollies Our cinnamon oat biscuits
Which foods are an absolute no in your house
"Artificial colours and sweeteners and refined sugar."

One of my favourites blooms...........the gorgeous Bluebell! Their colour, their shape, the shapes they create along with light that gives a stunning dappling effect and their story and most of all the fact that wherever they pop up, they have been doing so in that very same place for hundreds of years and must hold a million stories of the woods they live in.
Also one of my favourite places to take photos. They are a protected flower and it is illegal to pick them and must be respected we have to be very clever with shooting within these woods as well as when it comes to editing. I know a number of special locations where my BB shoots take place and I take on a limited number of BB shoots each year due to the unpredictable UK weather and the fact their bloom and their life span is unpredictable. May is the magical month, so if you would like to book a shoot with me for a BB shoot please get in touch as my 2017 list is now open!!
Heres a little bit about the wonderful Bluebells:
- Folklore tales would have us believe that by wearing a wreath made of bluebell flowers, the wearer would be compelled to speak only the truth. Or that if you could turn one of the flowers inside out without tearing it, you would eventually win the one you love :-)
- In the Bronze Age, people used bluebell glue to attach feathers to their arrows.
- The Victorians used starch from crushed bluebells to stiffen the ruffs of their collars and sleeves.
- Nearly 50% of the world’s bluebells can be found in the UK.
- The bluebell is being studied for its medicinal qualities because it contains things called water-soluble alkaloids that could be useful in developing drugs to fight cancer.
- Legend also says that a field of bluebells is intricately women with fairy enchantments.

]]>I had the pleasure of being asked to photograph Charlotte and Sean's wedding day at http://www.micklefieldhall.com which is located in Rickmansworth in Hertfordshire. The weather forecast threatened rain all morning and when I arrived, although spirits were high, the girls were in their room getting prepped for the big day and Amie Bone http://www.amieboneflowers.com the florist and her team were busying themselves turning an already beautiful venue, into an even more beautiful backdrop with lots of beautiful pastel coloured roses, candles and lots more. Right up until the last minute we thought the rain was coming, but with all the will in the world from us all, it stayed away. With a very very gorgeous bride, a very dashing groom and a venue to die for, it was the perfect setting for beautiful photographs.
Charlotte's friend Catherine McCarthy was in charge of hair and and Sacha Jade MAC makeup was on make up https://websta.me/n/sjp_makeup and as I'm sure you can see from the photographs her work is just gorgeous and very natural. Charlotte chose a fairytale dress which i couldn't imagine her in anything else once she was in it. The dress was by Tara Keely bough in Ascot Brides http://www.ascotbrides.com .
Once all of the girls were ready they started their long, but beautiful walk to where the ceremony was taking place, surrounded by flowers and trees and then tea lights as they made their way down the ancient brick steps, whilst the String Quartet played http://www.apollostrings.com. It really was a magic moment for all. The ceremony was beautiful, the guests showered the couple with confetti (an old tradition to bring the couple fertility!) and we were soon sneaking off for some quiet time and couple shots around the grounds. Charlotte and Sean both told me when booking with me that they hated having their photos taken but i soon put them at ease and before you knew it they were naturals and we got the beautiful shots that we needed.
The rain stayed away, the speeches were brilliant and before we knew it the first dance and party was well on it's way. The fabulous http://gigzmanagement.com/acts/the-dominos/ were in charge on the music and the delicious food and planning of the day taken care of by http://kalmkitchen.co.uk/k-cafe.htm .
I would also like to credit Jamie Horton at Yours Truly Weddings http://www.yourstrulyweddingfilms.com who i hadn't worked with before but he was a pleasure to work with. Often it can become a battle a the cameras and trying to edit out videographers and their large cameras can be a problem but Jamie was a true gent and luckily the height difference with him being very tall and me 5'3 it worked really well, and he was happy to shoot over the top of me when we both needed to get shots we needed.
BRIDE AND PHOTOGRAPHER QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS:
P: Charlotte how did you meet Sean and how did he propose?
B: I first met Sean at high school on his induction day to our sixth form - we both noticed each other right from the first day. Sean proposed to me in Dubai on NYE with lots of fireworks, roses, champagne and candles - I had no idea and that's what made it so special as I always thought I'd know! He was actually planning on doing it the following feb in Disney, my fav place, but the ring was burning a hole in his pocket!
P: Did you see many venues, and how did you get to your final desicion?
B: When we got home from Dubai my mum had a line up of venues ready for us to go and see. I always had my heart set on a outdoor magical garden theme wedding so Micklefield Hall in Sarratt was perfect. It was the second venue we looked at. We totally fell in love with the outdoor area. The beautiful pond, gardens and stunning modern barn- it defo fitted into my enchanted fairytale theme!
P: Was your dress the dress you always dreamt of and did Sean predict the style you went for?
B: I always thought I would have a tight dress, fishtail style. I tried on so many in that style and was loosing hope when the lady asked me to give the puff ball dress a go. I put it on and instantly I knew that was the dress. Nothing I ever dreamt of having but once again it was very Cinderella and fairytale! Sean always thought I'd have a tight dress but when he saw me his words were "you look exactly how I would draw the perfect bride" he loved the dress and the fact is was quite traditional and different to the lace and tight ones in fashion now. I really felt special in it.
P: Did you go on honeymoon and if so where did you go?
B: We decided that instead of doing the usual white beach, bungalow on the water thing we would hire a white soft top mustang and drive around America! We had the best time ever starting in LA and driving to SAN Fran with all the stops on the way! We even took a little flight over the Vegas for the night! We ended in NYC and then Antigua for a relax! It was amazing!
P: If you could have your wedding all over again would you change anything and if so what and why?
B: I wouldn't change a thing - to us it was the perfect day.
Thank you Charlotte and Sean for choosing me to capture your fabulous and magical day and i wish you both all the love and happiness in the world and look forward to capturing more of your special memories in the near future!! xxx Sophie xxx

This is Evie's story:
The CDKL5 gene provides instructions for making a protein that is essential for normal brain development. Although little is known about the protein's function, it may play a role in regulating the activity of other genes, including the MECP2 gene (or Rett Syndrome). The CDKL5 protein acts as a kinase, which is an enzyme that changes the activity of other proteins by adding oxygen and phosphate atoms (a phosphate group) at specific positions. Researchers have not yet determined which proteins are targeted by the CDKL5 protein.
Most children affected by CDKL5 suffer from seizures that begin in the first few months of life. Most cannot walk, talk or feed themselves, and many are confined to wheelchairs, dependent on others for everything. Many also suffer with scoliosis, visual impairment, sensory issues and various gastrointestinal difficulties. As time has gone on it appears that there might be other symptoms that play a role in the condition.
LIST OF MOST COMMON SYMPTOMS:
How can you help? By donating to this page https://www.justgiving.com/eviescdkl5journey you will help to fund Evie’s physio, the target on this page is the cost for once weekly appointments and a 2 week block in the summer holidays (5 sessions a week for 2 weeks) for 3 years. The family & Evie take away lots of knowledge from these sessions & Sarah continues her physio at home.
Above are some shots from Evie's 3 shoots so far with me and below from her most recent shot this month.
Keep up the hard work Puds, your surrounded by love and incredible people........................the very best being your Mumma x x x
I thought this would be a good opportunity to introduce our bunnies, Mabel (dark ears) and her doting partner/brother/husband/whatever she'd like to call him, Dennis. I'm very anti keeping pets in cages or confined space and believe if you have a pet they should be a big part of your family. These bunnies were dumped by some coward and I knew that if I didn't take them, that they could end up having a depressing life in a small cage/hutch with little fuss and love.
So much to my poor husbands dismay, I took them in. I got the biggest hutch and run I could find, they have the start of their "run around system" (runaround.co.uk) which links their hutch to their run in the day. We are lucky enough to have a huge garden and I plan on expanding the system so that they have a runaround tube leading from their hutch all the way up the whole length of our garden with a couple of mini hutches connecting them in the middle and at the end (it will sit at the back of a deep flower bed we have. We also have 2 cats (Vincent and Casper) and two dogs (Henry and Bertie, who are from working stock so have a very strong hunt instinct) So as much as I would love to have the buns in the house all the time (my hubby has different thought's on this ;-/) it's just not practical if we want them to be safe. So when my dogs are at my fathers (3 x a week for 10 miler walks which my schedule and life just doesn't allow for), the buns come into the house. They are litter trained so they just hop about and then back to their tray if they need to "go". The cats are fine with them, although I wouldn't leave them alone together as again, cats have a strong kill/hunt instinct. But Casper our Ragdoll loves them (he loves everyone and everything) which is wonderful to watch. Then when we are in the garden, the buns come out with us. It's wonderful to watch and they run around the garden at full speed.
My daughter and I did a "mini shoot" a couple of weeks ago with Mabel and Dennis. I think you will agree they are pretty special!!!
My work has lead to me working with a children's party planning/styling company called Les Enfant, owned by Katie and run by her, Lucy her sister and Helen and their party passionate team of extremely hard working, down to earth people. I have worked with them on several occasions and they know the best of the best whether it be for the most impressive cake to the best children's entertainers in the South East and are THE BEST at what they do In my opinion.
Here are some fabulous shots I have taken from some fabulous Les Enfant Parties, followed by some questions and answers from Katie, the brains behind Les Enfant!

Hi Katie, thank you for your time in answering a few questions:
Q. Can I ask how Les Enfant came about?
A. I used to be an event manager at The Economist Newspaper so have been
organising corporate events for a long time. Once I had my
daughter I wanted a more flexible job so I worked as marketing manager part
time and set-up Les Enfants alongside working. I had a company organise my
daughter's 2nd birthday party and I was left feeling I could of organised a
better party myself. However, It was a big learning curve to go from adults to children's events and we have spent many years
now getting the best suppliers on board.
Q. What would you say is the secret to a successful children's party?
A.Take advice, if you are using a party planner they know what works and
what doesn't. I find that the parties we plan from start to finish where we
can use our expertise to pick the venue, entertainment and styling are the
smoothest. We always try to incorporate everyone's request but will always
be honest if we think something doesn't work. I also think they need to be
successful on two levels, with both the children and adults, two different
audiences.
Q. How much is the most a client has ever spent on a birthday cake?
A. £1,500
Q. What has been the most lavish party bag you have been asked to put together?
A. You name it we have done it, fish tanks and goldfish, bags filled with
Disney store gifts, handmade superhero cloaks and masks,
it is a really fun part of our job and we love that some clients even send
gifts out with the invitation.
Q. What was the most fabulous, extravagant party you have every been asked to plan and style
A.It is very difficult to say, we work with a range of VIP and celebrity
clients who value their privacy and we think this is very important which is why we never show pictures of children or take requests for
television. Let's just say there have been some incredible parties and that is part of the reason we do this job.
Q. I have personally had the pleasure of seeing and sampling ( ;-) lots of your incredibly styled "Sweetie Tables" which really are the foal point of your parties when entering the party room. Who is the creative genius behind these?
A. Katie tends to have the overview of the theme, researches the colour
scheme, props etc and then passes it onto our senior stylist Lucy who is a
whizz with all the detailed making. Of course we have some fabulous
suppliers of baked items who really bring the tables to life.
Q. Tell me about your Wedding Creche's as this is something of yours I have yet to photograph. What a fabulous idea!
A. We love them, they are a wonderful idea to manage having children at your
wedding. We have a trained team of nannies, a wide range of play equipment and of course we style the room or tea table to
match the bride and groom's colour scheme. We organised a fabulous one recently at Kensington Palace was wonderful to be involved.
Q. If you weren't in events what would you be doing?
A. I think I'd be living in a Gite in France having a very different life.

A lot of people that contact me or book me to come and photograph their families really worry that their "painfully shy little one" just won't co operate enough to get the shots they want and need to warrant booking a shoot. Fear not! for what ever reason I seem to always hit it off with children, and babies seem to be very relaxed around me (I have often been referred to as the "Baby Whisperer" :-) (something my late grandmother was always famous for). As some of you may be aware I am a mother myself, of two beautiful, lively, challenging at times, high spirited, often feral, little people, Evie 8 and Louie 6. I have been broody since I can remember and my very first portraits where in fact when I was studying Fine Art and Photography for my A Levels, when I photographed my two cousins Niamh and Brogan when they were about 2 and 4 and even then, as a teen I LOVED photographing them and their funny little ways.
I really think that being a Mummy myself is a huge part of my success with photographing children. I really believe a successful photographer must be passionate about their subject and this then really shows in your work which I'm proud to say does in mine. Children are very perceptive and usually you have about 10 minutes to "get"a child's attention, trust and willingness to work with you to create these precious pictorial memories, and being a Mummy of two crazy little monkeys, being little myself (not so intimidating to a little one), and not being afraid to behave like a complete clown (whether is be playing ninja turtles with a 5 year little boy, or jumping in puddles, and climbing trees with a lively energetic family in the woods) seems to be a good combination. Although as much as fun is a big part of getting the best out of children when photographing them, control, respect and good behavior must play another large part of a shoot. Kids will be kids and if they know they are in control you have had it!!!! Then what should have been a fun filled shoot can lead to a nightmare for all parties. I have had a handful of shoot's where the children are wired, the parent's have little control over their children, have filled them with sugar prior to the shoot and they also aren't that comfortable with me taking charge and not taking any nonsense (of course in a gentle way, a lot of the time I am a complete stranger and am not a parent so control, trust and respect has to be gained in a clever, gently way!). These shoot's have ended well in the end, but it takes a lot longer, and it's a lot more stressful for everyone this way.
I think my children and the people that know me and my family would say I am a fun Mummy and I am often chasing my children around the house in a nerf war, or dancing like a crazy to Michael Jackson (a family favorite in our home!) with my children, but at the same time I don't take any nonsense, we have rules, bed time is regimented in the week, and manners are a must and my children know this but we laugh A LOT!!! I think all in all this gives me the right tools and experience to have successful, fun, but controlled shoots time and time again. On the other hand my subjects often become my new best friend and want to be with me behind the camera instead of in front of it, but with a little pep talk and a sneak peek of how fab they look on my camera and we are good to go!!
I am very lucky to say that I have a lot of regular clients who book me year after year to capture their growing family which is wonderful, for me as my subjects become my friends which creates an amazing rapport, which really does show's in their photos, and for my clients because they are helping create this wonderful catalogue of beautiful pictorial memories which will last them, and their every growing families a life time. People change, come and go, but photos never do and that is the power of photography!!
Here are a selection of my wonderful regular clients who I have had the honor of photographing as their families grow and change, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for continuing to let me be a part of creating these beautiful photographic memories. - MWWWWWAAAAAHHHH X X X
Goodbye for now.

]]>I can't believe that it's that time of year already where I open up my Bluebell Shoot List. I usually open up my "interest" list a year before after I have done the current years BB shoots. Due to the huge amount of interest in these magical shoots and the shots we get, along with the fact I can only take on a limited amount due to the UK weather and the fact these beautiful little Bluey/purple flowers are only in bloom for around 3 weeks.
There is something magical about bluebells. With their sudden, mystical takeover of ancient woodlands the flowers have long been linked to the fairy-world. A quintessentially British sign of spring.
If you are interested in having your very own Bluebell Shoot with me do get in contact asap. I do have a handful of confirmed bookings for this year May, but weather and bloom depending, I often take on more at the time if I can, or you can go on next years list. Please email me at [email protected] for more details.
Until next time.

Today I am up to scratch with my editing which is a great feeling and I have some time to put together a blog entry before I turn into Mummy and get on the school run, cook tea, and take my little man to Karate :-).
A couple of years ago I was asked by my "Godsister" (if there is such a thing - My Godfathers daughter) to shoot her special day.
The Wedding took place at their Family Home/Farm on the borders of Herefordshire and Wales and is THE most incredible, romantic, peaceful venue, a good start to what was going to make a beautiful backdrop for the photos I was going to be taking. On top of that the bride works in fashion and worked very closely with her designer to make her beautiful dress. Every part of the wedding was handmade, designed and put together by the bride and groom and their family and friends. With that and the fact it was a home wedding made the day so personal and simply perfect. Oh and what a fabulous wedding gift from the brides little brother - an incredible handmade/built, tree-house overlooking the beautiful surroundings which they are their expanding family can enjoy for years to come.
Here are just few shots of their perfect day.

- Legend also says that a field of bluebells is intricately women with fairy enchantments.
If you are interested in having your very own Bluebell Shoot with me do get in contact asap. I do have a handful of confirmed bookings for this year May, but weather and bloom depending, I often take on more at the time if I can, or you can go on next years list. Please email me at [email protected] for more details.
Until next time.

This is my first NEW Blog post! I have tried Blogging before but I just didn't make enough time to make it a regular, worthwhile part of my website, soooooo here goes, attempt no. 2!
Hmmmm where to start........OK maybe lets start with a little about me, Sophie, the Photographer behind all these images. Lots of you know me very well, just a little bit, or not at all so hopefully I won't bore you but when doing what I do, offering such a personal service, whether it's parents letting me into their homes to snap away at their precious Little People, or inviting me to capture one of their most important days of their lives, their Wedding Day, I think it's important you know a bit about your photographer.
Me:
Name: Sophie Joanne Connell (Maiden name)
AKA'S: Mumma, Soppy, Soph, Connell, Sop, Mrs Campbell-Johnson, Sophs, The Baby Whisperer, PETA.
Age: 30 something!!!
Height: Little. (this helps when trying to fit into tiny spaces to make use of the best natural light, goofing around with the Little People and disappearing into the background at a wedding )
Status: Happily Married with two INCREDIBLY amazing Little People.......not that I'm bias, they just are :-).
Location: South East England.
Hobbies: My animals, walking my dogs, eating out, and generally spending time with my family and friends. I'm BIG on family!
Loves: Children, animals, DOGS, DOGS, DOGS, cuddles and kisses, music, singing, romance, Christmas, good food and cooking, red wine (in fact any colour wine), lobster, chocolate, being outside, family, the colour grey, interior design, films, honesty, photos!
Hates: Cruelty, bullying, wind, RATS, RATS. RATS, dead things, waiting for anything, how quickly my Little People are growing up - SLOOOOOWWWWW DOWWWWN!, birds in cages, my husbands alarm clock, people taking people for granted and not putting 100% into everything. LIFES FOR LIVING, when the clock strikes 12 on New Years Eve.
My Positives: I seem to have an amazing rapport with children (which I hope never to loose), my family seems to have a "good/keen eye" gene which is pretty important when your a photographer, you can can be a photography geek but if you haven't got "the eye" AND the rapport/passion for your subject your photos won't be powerful. I have inherited my mothers hard working gene and I love hard work. I have inherited my fathers ability to get on with everyone not just people "like me". I put 110% into everything and love life.
My Cons (I'm sure I have a lot more but lets not bore you ;-) : I am stubborn, I am firey, I am impulsive, I am impatient, I often take on too much, I am a THINGS person ("THINGS" cost money). I have expensive taste, I blame my mother and grandmothers!! I am my own worst critic.
Job: Mother and Photographer
Bye for now.
