There are some photo shoots that feel less like work and more like stepping into someone’s story for a few precious hours, and this was exactly that.
Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing a stunning litter of working-type fox red Labrador puppies at a beautiful working livery yard. Set against open countryside and surrounded by horses, rolling paddocks and stable life, it was the perfect setting to introduce these gorgeous little characters to the world.

This isn't just any yard. It’s a thriving working livery yard run by the most incredible lady, not only dedicated to her horses and clients, but also specialising in dressage. There’s something so calming about a yard where everything runs with quiet purpose

Fox red Labradors are always striking, but this working-type litter had something extra. Rich, deep coats glowing in the soft natural light. Curious eyes. Confident little strides already hinting at the intelligent, driven dogs they’ll grow into.
Of course, photographing puppies is always… an adventure!
They tumble.
They wriggle.
They suddenly all decide to run in different directions.
And just when you think you’ve got the perfect composition, someone disappears out of frame.
But that’s the magic of it.
Working-type Labradors in particular are alert and inquisitive even from a young age. I always aim to balance those classic, “all looking at the camera” shots with natural moments, interaction, curiosity, personality.

What I love most about sessions like this, especially here across Hertfordshire, Essex, London, Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire, is documenting real life. Not stiff posing. Not perfection. But connection.
The connection between:
A child and her puppies
A family and their animals
A yard owner and the life she has built
Horses, dogs and countryside woven together
It’s always such a privilege to be invited into these spaces, particularly when I’ve been able to photograph a family’s journey over time.
This shoot wasn’t just about introducing a litter of fox red Labs. It was about preserving a chapter, tiny paws, childhood curiosity, and the quiet beauty of life on a working yard.
And I cannot wait to return to capture the next one.
